Better Be Youtube! (Was It Something I Said?)

November 20, 2012 by Koo Chung

This blog entry is going to be about several things, but mostly about my friendship w/ singer-songwriter extraordinaire Jason Min.

Several years ago, a good mutual friend of ours by the name of Eugene Kim introduced us, and I'll be forever grateful to him for that.  Since then, I've watched Jason go through so much growth in his music - the beginning and the sad end of Miss Vintage, the start of his solo career - driving around from gig to gig w/ his little dog Mozart - getting married (breaking many young girls' hearts :)) - and then, a few years back I had the honor of producing his first solo project!  If you haven't already, go get it on iTunes pronto!!

It was during this project that Jase became one of my best friends in life.   There were so many times we've both wanted to throw in the towel w/ music, and I'm so thankful we were both able to spur each other on during many pivotal moments in our lives.  And right now, I think it's just about one of those times for the both of us.  And I hope that we can do music individually and together for a long time to come!

I'll probably get into it all in a different blog entry, but for those who've supported my music career in the past you'll know that for nearly 6 years I've completely stopped doing music minus the 1 or 2 shows I did a year.  It's a bit of a long story, but it was probably the most difficult season of life I've been through, and in the last few months, through the help of several good friends, and a faithful God - I've taken on the courage to get my feet wet w/ music again.  I've really missed it, and I'm so incredibly thankful for the opportunities I've been receiving as of late!

About a year ago, Jason and I performed one of my old songs "Better Be You" together, and I was so sad that it wasn't recorded, and that it was something that only existed in my memory - so last month I asked him if he'd help me to document it so that I can always have it in video form to look back on :)  For so long, I've had a chip on my shoulder about putting stuff up on youtube, and I'd always have some reason or excuse for it, but if I was being truthful w/ myself - it really just boiled down to my extreme insecurities - and frankly youtube commenters are just plain MEAN sometimes!  But thanks to my good friend/youtube star Arden Cho -  I got the kick in the butt I needed to just start getting some stuff out there in the meantime while I'm working on new material.

So, without further ado, here's one of my favorite versions ever, of my song "Better Be You" that Jase helped me out with!  Also, below are some photos I took during the time we were working on his EP.  They were taken years ago, but I didn't really get to edit them till today - Photogs, you know how that goes :)

Enjoy - and share it in your "youtwitface" world if you like it!

Hey all! Haven't updated my channel in YEARS, but I'm taking some baby steps to get back into music! I'm so out of the loop w/ the whole youtube culture, and I know it's probably "cooler" to do everything live, but I wanted to work on this small collab of one of my old songs w/ one of my best friends in the world, Jason Min and share it w/ y'all.

Thanks again Jase - love you bro!!

Check out his amazing music!!

UGMONK PHOTOSHOOT [August 2012]

UGMONK

October 10, 2012 by Koo Chung in Fashion, Photography

Back in July, I got to attend an Arts Conference that I cannot rave enough about: ECHO CONFERENCE 2012.  The last workshop I attended was my absolute favorite, and it was where I was first introduced to the wonderful work of UGMONK.  There are SO many T-Shirt companies out there, but UGMONK really stuck out to me in their unique "typeface based design" approach.  Jeff Sheldon (founder of UGMONK) talked about how he started his company several years ago, and I don't want to botch up the story, so you can read it HERE.  I was won over immediately, and bought 3 shirts right after the workshop!   I believe that the MO of the company is captured in one of their T-Shirt Ideas, with the following phrase: "do what you LOVE what you do" - and this is precisely what I identify with even in my own artistic journey over the years.  I really hope that I can be successful as well in operating with this mindset!

I went up to Jeff right after the workshop and offered to do a photoshoot for them.  [Grab hold of the opportunity!] The photography in general on their website is amazing (if you're reading this, kudos to all the amazing photographers who contributed work to that site), and I felt intimidated but inspired at the same time, and wondered if he'd even end up using the images for anything.   Either way I thought it would be great practice for me to develop my skills in "lifestyle" and "fashion" photography.

Fast forward to a few weeks later, and I got some of my good friends involved to model for me and they did a fantastic job - they are such naturals!!!  We went around the Meat Packing District in NYC, and then finished the rest of the set down in Philly (and of course ended the evening with STEVE'S Philly Cheesesteaks - hands down, the best in Philly).

So excited to let y'all know that Jeff featured the photos on the UGMONK site/blog.  You can view that site HERE!

There were so many photos that I loved that I wanted to share the rest of them w/ you here!  Hope you enjoy them!  Special thanks to: Katie Contini, Timothy Moore, Marissa Moore, Mang Sabrina, and my good friend Jason Min (Musician/Singer-Songwriter Extraordinaire) for helping me out and being such great models!!!
